Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) shares gained 2.7% on October 6, 2026, as investor attention intensified around the expected initial public offering (IPO) of Jio Platforms, the digital and telecommunications arm of the Reliance group.

The rise came after reports indicated that Jio Platforms could seek a valuation of around ₹11 trillion, or approximately $114 billion, in its planned IPO. The proposed listing is being closely watched by domestic and international investors because it could provide a separate market valuation for one of India’s largest digital businesses and potentially unlock significant value for Reliance Industries shareholders.

October 6, 2026

Jio Platforms is reportedly looking to launch the IPO in the week of October 19 and list before the end of October, although the final timetable, valuation and pricing remain subject to change.

The potential listing has become one of the most anticipated events in India’s equity markets. If completed as expected, the Jio Platforms IPO could become one of the country’s largest-ever public offerings.

Why the Jio Platforms IPO Matters

The Jio Platforms IPO is significant for more than just its potential size. It represents a major step in the evolution of Reliance Industries’ digital and telecommunications business from a private subsidiary into an independently valued listed company.

Jio transformed India’s telecommunications market after launching commercial services in 2016, rapidly expanding affordable mobile data and increasing competition among telecom operators. Over time, the business expanded beyond mobile connectivity into areas such as 5G, home broadband, enterprise technology, cloud services and digital platforms.

The IPO would allow investors to directly participate in this business while giving the market a clearer picture of Jio’s standalone value.

For Reliance Industries, the listing could also help narrow the so-called holding-company discount. Investors currently value Reliance based on several businesses, including oil-to-chemicals, retail and digital services. A separately listed Jio could make it easier for investors to assess the contribution of its telecommunications and digital operations.

Analysts have already highlighted the potential for value unlocking as one reason behind the recent movement in Reliance Industries shares.

Jio Platforms IPO Valuation: Why $114 Billion Is Important

The reported $114 billion valuation is particularly important because earlier market expectations had placed Jio Platforms at substantially higher levels.

According to reports, earlier estimates had included valuations ranging from roughly $130 billion to $170 billion. The latest reported target of approximately $114 billion therefore suggests a more measured approach to pricing the IPO amid market conditions and investor feedback.

At around ₹11 trillion, Jio Platforms would still rank among India’s most valuable listed companies if the valuation materialises. The Economic Times, citing Bloomberg, reported that such a valuation would put Jio among India’s three most valuable publicly traded companies, behind Reliance Industries and close to Bharti Airtel in overall value.

The valuation will ultimately depend on investor demand, market conditions and the final price discovered during the IPO process.

For investors, the key question will not simply be whether Jio is a large company, but whether its future growth potential justifies the valuation attached to the business.

Expected Size of the Jio IPO

Jio Platforms has reportedly filed plans for an offering of up to 270 million new shares, representing approximately 2.93% of its post-issue equity capital, according to Bloomberg-cited reports.

At a valuation of approximately $114 billion, the shares being offered could have a value of roughly $3.4 billion.

Other recent reports have placed the expected issue size closer to $3.8 billion, which would still make the Jio Platforms IPO larger than the approximately $2.9 billion IPO of Hyundai Motor India’s Indian unit in 2024.

The final issue size and pricing, however, remain subject to the company’s final IPO documentation and market conditions.

Jio IPO Date: When Could the Issue Open?

Market reports indicate that Jio Platforms is targeting an IPO launch in the second half of October 2026.

One reported timetable suggests that the IPO could open around October 21, with the issue potentially running through October 23 and the shares listing around October 28. Other reports have described the broader target as opening during the week of October 19 and listing before October 30.

Because the company is still considering market conditions and final pricing, investors should treat these dates as expected rather than confirmed until the official IPO announcement is made.

The company has already moved significantly through the regulatory process. Jio Platforms filed its draft prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in June, with final observations reportedly received in August.

How Jio Plans to Use IPO Proceeds

A major feature of the proposed Jio Platforms IPO is that it is expected to consist entirely of a fresh issue, rather than an offer for sale by existing shareholders.

The proceeds are expected to be used primarily to repay or prepay borrowings associated with Reliance Jio Infocomm. Reports indicate that approximately ₹27,500 crore of outstanding borrowings could be repaid using the proceeds, with the remaining amount intended for general corporate purposes.

Debt reduction could be important as Jio enters a new stage of growth.

The company has spent heavily over recent years building its 4G and 5G infrastructure. With a substantial portion of that network investment already completed, Jio is increasingly looking to monetise its large customer base and expand higher-value digital and enterprise services.

Jio’s Massive Customer Base

One of Jio’s biggest strengths is its scale.

Reliance Jio Infocomm had approximately 524.4 million customers as of March 31, 2026, making it India’s largest telecom operator by subscriber base. The company also had around 268.5 million 5G customers, highlighting the scale of its next-generation network adoption.

This customer base gives Jio an important platform for introducing additional products and services.

The company’s opportunity is no longer limited to selling mobile connectivity. Jio can potentially increase revenue per user by offering broadband, entertainment, enterprise solutions, cloud services and other digital products.

This transition from a connectivity-led business toward a broader digital ecosystem is one of the central factors investors are likely to evaluate when assessing the Jio Platforms IPO.

Jio’s Growth Opportunities Beyond Telecom

Jio Platforms is increasingly positioning itself as a broader technology and digital services company rather than simply a telecom operator.

According to recent reports, the company has identified several potential growth engines, including mobility, home broadband, enterprise services and international technology services.

1. 5G and Mobile Services

Jio’s large 5G customer base gives it an opportunity to monetise the significant investments made in its network.

The continued transition of Indian consumers from older networks to 4G and 5G could provide additional customer growth. Jio could also benefit from users upgrading to higher-value plans as data consumption increases.

2. Home Broadband

Home broadband is another important opportunity.

As Indian households consume more streaming content, conduct remote work and adopt connected devices, demand for high-speed broadband services is expected to remain significant.

Jio’s broadband operations can also create opportunities to bundle connectivity with entertainment and digital services.

3. Enterprise Technology

The enterprise segment could become increasingly important for Jio.

Businesses are moving toward cloud infrastructure, digital communication, cybersecurity, data management and connected technologies. Jio’s network infrastructure and technology capabilities could allow it to compete for a larger share of enterprise spending.

4. Digital Services

Jio has also built an ecosystem around digital content, applications and consumer services.

The ability to cross-sell services to a huge existing customer base could become a major advantage if Jio can successfully increase engagement and monetisation.

What the Jio IPO Means for Reliance Industries

The proposed IPO could have a significant impact on how the market values Reliance Industries.

At present, investors gain exposure to Jio indirectly through their ownership of Reliance Industries. A separate Jio Platforms listing would establish an independent market price for the digital business.

This could make it easier for investors to calculate the value of Reliance’s stake in Jio and compare that value with Reliance’s overall market capitalisation.

The recent 2.7% rise in Reliance Industries shares reflects the market’s expectation that the IPO could unlock value. Analysts have pointed to the potential for a narrower holding-company discount following the listing.

However, the impact on Reliance shares will depend on several factors, including Jio’s final IPO valuation, subscription levels, listing performance and the company’s future earnings growth.

Jio IPO and India’s Record IPO Market

The Jio Platforms IPO comes at a time when India’s primary market is experiencing significant activity.

India has seen strong IPO fundraising in 2026, with several large companies preparing to tap public markets. According to Bloomberg-cited data, IPO proceeds crossed $9 billion during the July-September quarter, the highest level recorded for that period, while fundraising for the year had already exceeded $13 billion.

A successful Jio IPO could further strengthen India’s position as an important destination for large-scale equity fundraising.

It could also create a benchmark for how investors value large Indian technology and digital businesses.

What Investors Will Watch Before the Jio Listing

While excitement around the Jio Platforms IPO is high, investors will need to look beyond the headline valuation.

Several factors could influence the IPO’s performance.

First is valuation. A $114 billion valuation would represent a major market expectation for Jio’s future earnings and growth.

Second is profitability. Investors will want to understand how effectively Jio can convert its huge customer base into higher revenue and profits.

Third is capital expenditure. The company has invested heavily in telecom infrastructure. Investors will be watching whether future growth can be achieved without a similar increase in capital spending.

Fourth is competition. Jio operates in a highly competitive telecommunications market, particularly against Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea.

Finally, broader market conditions matter. Equity market volatility can influence IPO demand, pricing and listing performance regardless of a company’s underlying fundamentals.

Jio Platforms IPO: A Potential Landmark Listing

The Jio Platforms IPO could become one of the defining events in India’s capital markets in 2026.

With a reported target valuation of approximately $114 billion, a massive telecom customer base and ambitions extending into enterprise and digital services, Jio is entering the public market at a crucial stage of its evolution.

For Reliance Industries shareholders, the listing could provide greater transparency and potentially unlock value from the group’s digital business. For public-market investors, it could offer direct exposure to one of India’s largest technology and telecommunications platforms.

However, the ultimate success of the IPO will depend on valuation, investor demand, profitability, future growth and market conditions.

As anticipation builds ahead of the expected October launch window, investors will be watching closely for the final issue size, price band, IPO dates and valuation.

If Jio Platforms successfully completes its listing, it could mark not only a major milestone for Reliance Industries but also another significant step in the development of India’s digital economy and public markets.

Note: IPO dates, issue size, valuation and other transaction details mentioned above are based on current media reports and may change before the final official announcement.
