The Case for Innovation

When you spend over two decades inside courtrooms, across arbitration tables, and in the trenches of policy drafting, you develop a keen sense of what’s broken – and more importantly, what needs fixing. For Rohan K George, a veteran disputes and technology lawyer, the legal system’s biggest inefficiency was glaring: “Lawyers were spending 80% of their time on document review rather than strategy,” he says. Rohan’s experience with the problem of extreme case pendency in Indian litigation – where litigants waited years, even decades, for their cases to be heard – were another significant influence.

These insights, sharpened through years of navigating some of India’s most complex legal and policy matters, eventually became the foundation for Ad Idem Technology Solutions LLP – a company that’s now at the forefront of what it calls Dispute Intelligence.

With a bold vision and an even bolder product, Ad Idem is carving out a new category in legal tech – one where lawyers can shift focus from paperwork to problem-solving.

From Courtrooms to Code

Rohan’s journey is anything but typical. With over 20 years in litigation, arbitration, IP law, and tech advisory, he played a role in shaping Indian legal history – handling cases around software patentability, fighting for open-access knowledge, and even drafting Karnataka’s cybersecurity policy. But the entrepreneurial spark truly ignited during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As legal systems across the world descended into chaos, Rohan and the Aapti Institute built LegalCovid, a regulatory tracker that over 50,000 people relied on. “It proved that scalable tech can bridge chaos and bring clarity,” he says.

Around the same time, he teamed up with co-founder Adarsh Sosale – an AI/ML technologist and product leader who had cut his teeth at unicorns in Silicon Valley and India. The duo shared a conviction: Technology should amplify legal minds, not replace them.

That belief became the genesis of Ad–Idem.

Identifying the Legal Sector’s Blind Spot

The legal world is no stranger to software. Case management tools, billing software, and document repositories abound. But when it comes to high-volume disputes – where complexity is layered, timelines are dense, and strategy is paramount – most tools fall flat.

“Traditional legal AI lacks context-awareness,” Rohan explains. “And existing case management platforms require endless manual data entry. None of them help you actually understand a dispute, let alone strategize around it.”

This gap was not just frustrating; it was systemic. It led to missed insights, longer timelines, and ballooning costs for clients. Rohan and Adarsh saw an opportunity – not to incrementally improve legal work, but to revolutionize how it’s approached.

Building the World’s First Dispute Intelligence Platform

So, what exactly does Ad Idem do?

In short, it gives legal teams superpowers. Their Dispute Intelligence platform uses AI to analyze case files, extract key facts, auto-generate interactive timelines, and even assist in drafting legal briefs – all while keeping every output traceable to its source documents.

One standout feature is the Visual Brief Architect – a patent-pending module that allows lawyers to construct arguments visually, mapping out how each fact supports a legal point. Another, the Triage Dashboard, acts as a command center for understanding the health and risks of all active disputes.

“Tasks that used to take days now take minutes,” says Rohan. “And because everything is built around transparency and traceability, lawyers trust the results.”

It’s this fusion of speed, accuracy, and reliability that sets Ad Idem apart – and is turning heads across the legal industry.

Pilots, Proof, and a 58% Time Reduction

Every startup needs a moment of validation – a clear win that transforms possibility into proof. For Ad-Idem, that moment came with their first live pilot with Cadre ODR, a tech-enabled arbitration platform.

“We reduced case resolution time by 58%,” Rohan shares. “That pilot showed that our platform wasn’t just functional – it was transformative.”

The success with Cadre ODR opened doors. Soon, in-house legal teams from large enterprises were signing on for pilots. Letters of Intent from Fortune 500 companies followed. What started as an idea was now a pipeline – and a category-defining company in the making.

Navigating Resistance and Building Trust

But disrupting a risk-averse industry like law isn’t easy. “Convincing early adopters to try a new AI-powered approach was one of our biggest hurdles,” Rohan admits.

The answer? Radical transparency and relentless iteration.

By working closely with pilot partners, the team fine-tuned its features based on real-world feedback. With a lean team and a clear north star – delivering value without compromising legal integrity – they built trust one casefile at a time.

“Getting lawyers and technologists to work together deeply was essential,” Rohan notes. “It’s rare in this space, but it made all the difference.”

Scaling the Future of Legal Strategy

Looking ahead, Ad–Idem’s ambitions are as bold as its founding idea. The company aims to become the default Dispute Intelligence layer for legal teams around the globe.

That means deepening its AI capabilities to spot recurring dispute patterns, integrating seamlessly with existing enterprise legal systems, and making the platform accessible to solo lawyers and even courts in developing countries.

“Our mission is to dramatically reduce case pendency, free legal talent from repetitive work, and enable data-driven strategy at every level of the justice system,” says Rohan.

In other words, they’re not just building software – they’re reimagining how justice is served.

Lessons from the Trenches

For aspiring entrepreneurs, especially those eyeing the intersection of legacy industries and emerging tech, Rohan offers clear advice:

“Don’t build tech for the sake of it. Build to solve real, lived problems. The answers are often hiding in plain sight – where people are doing complex, repetitive work that feels impossible to scale.”

He also emphasizes the importance of cross-functional collaboration: “The magic happens when domain experts and technologists sit together – not just in design meetings, but in the trenches.”

Final Verdict: A Startup to Watch

In a world where AI headlines often tout replacement over augmentation, Ad Idem is a refreshing counterpoint. By focusing on context, usability, and trust, it’s giving lawyers tools that enhance their judgment – not sideline it.

For Rohan K George and his team, the mission is crystal clear: help legal teams do more of what they’re trained for – thinking strategically, arguing effectively, and serving justice – with less time lost to paperwork and confusion.

And in doing so, they just might rewrite the future of legal work.
