From Humble Beginnings to Engineering Excellence

Mufaddal German’s story is one of grit and determination. Growing up in a lower-middle-class family, he faced numerous challenges that shaped his resolve to create a better future.

After graduating as a chemical engineer in 2010, Mufaddal gained valuable industry experience before taking the leap into entrepreneurship in 2014.

“My life took a significant turn when I got married,” Mufaddal recalls. “This experience fueled my desire to create a business that could improve my family’s situation and provide a better future for us.”

Along with two partners, he founded FABEX Engineering with a mission to revolutionize the manufacturing landscape in India.

The Genesis of FABEX Engineering: Bridging a Critical Gap

When Mufaddal entered the industry, he noticed a glaring gap in the market. Continuous manufacturing technologies—more efficient and sustainable than traditional batch processes—were largely inaccessible to Indian companies.

These solutions were often sourced from Europe and the U.S., leading to exorbitant costs that made them unfeasible for many businesses.

“To foster growth and promote environmental sustainability, it became essential for these technologies to be accessible to Indian businesses at a lower cost,” Mufaddal explains.

Recognizing this opportunity, FABEX Engineering was born, offering cutting-edge solutions tailored to the needs of Indian manufacturers.

What Sets FABEX Apart?

FABEX Engineering specializes in continuous process technologies, a niche yet rapidly growing segment. Their product portfolio includes:

  • Agitated Thin Film Evaporators (ATFE)
  • Agitated Thin Film Dryers (ATFD)
  • Short Path Distillation Units (SPDU)
  • Liquid-Liquid Extractors (LLE)
  • Centrifugal Extractors (ACE)
  • Continuous Crystallizers
  • Flow Reactors (recently developed)

These technologies are widely used in industries such as pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, agrochemicals, and nutraceuticals.

What makes FABEX stand out is its end-to-end approach. The company acts as a consultant, designer, and manufacturer, offering services that span from process layout and pilot testing to installation and after-sales support.

“We don’t just build products; we engineer solutions,” Mufaddal emphasizes. “Our commitment to sustainability drives us to create products that not only meet today’s needs but also leave a positive legacy for future generations.”

Overcoming Challenges: A Test of Resilience

Building a capital-intensive business like FABEX Engineering came with its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was managing working capital and controlling purchase prices.

Mufaddal and his team addressed this by establishing fixed-price contracts with suppliers, ensuring stability even during market fluctuations.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought another unexpected challenge when one of Mufaddal’s partners decided to exit the business.

“Initially, we were concerned about managing the business with reduced capital,” he admits.

However, with the support of his Dawoodi Bohra community, Mufaddal secured an interest-free loan (Qardan Hasana) that helped the company bounce back.

Surprisingly, the pandemic proved to be a turning point. As the chemical and pharmaceutical industries boomed, FABEX Engineering saw a surge in demand.

“After my partner’s exit, we were able to make quicker decisions and take calculated risks,” Mufaddal shares.

This agility allowed the company to scale up rapidly, achieving 10x growth in just 10 years.

Milestones and Achievements

FABEX Engineering journey is marked by several key milestones:

  • Execution of 225+ successful projects across multiple industries
  • Development of innovative products like Flow Reactors, opening new avenues for continuous manufacturing
  • A strong focus on research and development, with plans to secure patents for new technologies

The Road Ahead: Expanding Horizons

Looking ahead, Mufaddal has ambitious plans for FABEX Engineering. The company aims to achieve a revenue of ₹75 crore in the next five years and expand its footprint beyond India.

Target markets include:

  • UAE
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Italy
  • Turkey
  • Indonesia
  • The Netherlands
  • Egypt
  • USA

Additionally, FABEX Engineering plans to diversify its product offerings and provide comprehensive turnkey solutions for various applications.

“We are also focused on increasing our efforts in researching and developing new products while securing patents for them,” Mufaddal adds.

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Mufaddal’s journey offers valuable lessons for budding entrepreneurs:

  1. Embrace Challenges: Every obstacle is an opportunity to learn and grow.
  2. Leverage Community Support: A strong network can provide crucial resources during tough times.
  3. Take Calculated Risks: Agility and decisiveness can propel your business forward.
  4. Stay Committed to Your Vision: Persistence and passion are key to long-term success.

Conclusion: Engineering a Sustainable Future

FABEX Engineering story is one of innovation, resilience, and unwavering commitment to sustainability. Under Mufaddal German’s leadership, the company has not only bridged a critical gap in the market but also set new standards for excellence in the manufacturing industry.

As FABEX Engineering continues to expand its reach and develop groundbreaking technologies, one thing is clear: the future of manufacturing is being shaped by visionary leaders like Mufaddal German.
