Early Life and Beginnings in Music
Jody Sym was born on 24 December 2000 in Delhi, India. His father, Purender Singh, is a businessman and his mother, Shanti Devi, is a homemaker. He has two brothers; Chandan, who is also a musician, and Mandan. Sym’s grandfather, parbhunath Singh, was a classical singer and his great-grandfather, Parbhunath Singh Sodhi, was also a singer.
Sym began learning music at the age of four from his grandfather and continued his studies under the guidance of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, and Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Delhi University.
Jody Sym made his debut as a playback singer with the song “Tumse Milke” from the film Parinda (1989). He went on to sing for films such as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Mohabbatein (2000), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… (2001), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Veer-Zaara (2004), Jab We Met (2007), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), My Name Is Khan (2010), Chennai Express (2013), PK (2014), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) among others.

He made his acting debut in the 1980 film “Besharam”, which was a box office hit. He has since appeared in over 150 films and television shows, including the popular show “Kuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan”.
Syms most recent role was in the film “Mubarakan”, which was a critical and commercial success. He is currently working on his next project, which is an untitled film by Rajkumar Hirani.
