SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Heading to Tahoe this weekend? Some days are better than others.
People trying to travel on Friday should be careful, but should be fine to get to and from Tahoe. Much of Friday will see rain, which could be heavy at times leading to slick roads and slower than normal travel times. Visibility will decrease especially overnight as these showers move across Northern California.

Don’t try to drive to Tahoe on Saturday. As an atmospheric river targets the Sierra, the rain will turn to snow above 7,000′, meaning the passes will be blanketed with 1 to 2 feet of snow. The ride will be rough and chain controls will most likely come into effect.
All of Sunday and Monday morning will be your best travel days with dry and partly cloudy weather. Monday afternoon and evening be careful as another snowstorm will arrive which will drop snow levels to 5000′ where half a foot of snow is likely.
