The Health Professions Summer Camp is scheduled for June 15 for all high school students. Participants must register by June 5.
Here are the details for both events:

- Overnight accommodations
- All meals
- Course/activity materials
- Professional instruction from regional leaders in athletic training

The popular workshop, which was first held in 1978, returns after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are very excited to bring back the Athletic Training Student Support Workshop,” said Dr. Melissa Kossman, Director of the School of Health Professions at USM. “Over the years, many of our graduates first began their ties to USM through this workshop and applied to our undergraduate program because of it. These graduates have gone on to do amazing things and many of them now come back and teach within the seminary because it is so close to their hearts. Now that athletic training is a master’s degree, this connection early on is even more important to get students interested and continue to engage them with new material as they assist their schools’ athletic programs. before they start the actual program.”
Dr. added. Leslie Oglesby, USM Athletic Training Program Coordinator: “The workshop has been around as long as the athletic training program itself and provides valuable knowledge and skills for future athletic trainers. I hope the workshop continues to grow year after year.”

Health Professions Summer Camp (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
- Learn about a variety of health career opportunities
- Participate in hands-on activities related to each career
- Discuss the next steps in your journey to a health career
- Lunch and a commemorative shirt included
- Networking opportunities
- Overnight accommodations available at the Hattiesburg Hilton Garden Inn for a special fee
Dr. Kossman points out that this is the first time USM has offered the health professions summer camp.
“There are so many paths students can take to achieve a health-related career. However, many of these options are not widely known or understood,” said Dr. Kossman. “The goal of this camp is to engage students early on who know they want to help people in some way, shape or form, but are still determining the best path they want to take. Students will be exposed to practical activities from each of our respective degree programs (athlete training, kinesiotherapy, public health, recreation therapy and sports medicine) to learn about each career option as well as gain some basic knowledge about how how to pursue those careers at USM.”
