South Korean boy band Tomorrow X Together – better known as TXT – made their debut at the annual American Music Awards in Los Angeles. Group members Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Huening Kai are all nominated for Best K-Pop Artist tonight, along with other popular acts like BTS and Blackpink. To mark the first AMAs red carpet in style, the stylish ensemble opted for coordinated, black and white Saint Laurent outfits. The suits have revived indie sleaze style—yes, 2000s fashion.
If you’re unfamiliar with the term indie sleaze, it’s an actual fashion trend—rather, Attitude– Chaos, rock and roll styles were all the rage. Think skinny jeans, cropped moto jackets and plaid shirts. Anything you reblog on Tumblr at the moment. For a more modern take on the spirit, however, TXT opted for edgy, but still smooth and refined pieces. Beomgyu’s playboy brown sweater is paired with classic black pants and leather knee boots. Meanwhile, Taehyung is wearing a military-style coat with heels. Where one member dialed up the drama—like Huynh Jin Kai’s fluffy faux fur jacket—was balanced against the other team members’ simpler looks, like Yeonjun’s striped button-down shirt and Subin’s double-breasted outfit.
Their rocker sets weren’t a dead copy of indie sleaze fashion, but rather a grown-up, more sophisticated version. As much as we love it, they still stay true to the skinny jeans obsession of the day. Sorry, baggy jeans lovers!
