A delayed flight from Madrid, Spain, to Florence, Italy, created an unusual challenge for the University of St.
The Billikens arrived in Italy with little time to spare. So their bus went straight to a gym, where the players had enough time to warm up before beating a team called Italy All Stars 92-61.
“(We) played really well in traffic and looked tired on others,” coach Travis Ford said via text message. “The team we played was very skilled and could really shoot.”
SLU spent three days in Spain, where the Billikens won their only game and then had a paella dinner Monday night. After a long day of travel, SLU led by eight points in the first half before falling behind Javonte Perkins’ 18 points.
Jake Forrester, who originally didn’t make the trip, joined the group and had 10 rebounds. Gibson Jimerson added 16 points and Francis Okoro had 12 and eight rebounds. Yuri Collins had 10 assists for the second game with no change.
