WILSON, NC – The Wilson Tobs traveled to their opponent for the third time this season on Tuesday night. As a result, the Eastern Division Coastal Plains League will go down with a win at Morehead City on Wednesday.
As far as their last game, the Tobs came away with a 4-3 win over Morehead City, 4-3 at Fleming Stadium. The win tied the series at 1-1. The deciding game will be played at Big Rock Stadium in Morehead City on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
The Tobs got on the board in the first frame when Sammy Sass came home to score on a two-base error.
Derek Carter started the Tobs and made quick work of the Marlins in the first two frames, striking out six of the first seven batters. Morehead City, however, tied the game 1-1 in the Marlins’ second game in the third. Zach Miller hits a no-doubt home run over the left field wall.
Things got tough for Tobbs as he jumped ahead in the fifth inning. Carter had a bit of trouble after drawing two walks and Morehead City would drive in a pair off the bat of Ben Watson.
After five completed frames, the Marlins led 3-1.
Shane Rademacher made a four-inning appearance out of the bullpen, holding the Marlins scoreless and recording a season-high and single-game high 10 strikeouts. Rademacher improves to 4-0 on the season.
Wilson took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Harrison Pontoli scored the second run of the game on a sacrifice bunt by Blake Evans to make it 3-2.
Fast forward to the ninth round. Rademacher strikes out the side to ensure the Tobs only need one run… or maybe two.
Matt Shark goes out for number one. Pontoli drove in four straight yards and Jake Lisgat followed with a full-count walk to move the pinch-hitting run into scoring position. Evans will send Heart and Soul Award winner Efri Cervantes to the plate for the 2022 season.
Cervantes singled into left field and Pontoli scored for the second time of the night, tying the game at 3-3. An error from the Marlins’ outfielder sent the ball to left field to single out Lisgat, who was running for Tobbs.
