At the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport, it’s a very different scene compared to the chaos seen at major airports across the country.
Inside the airport Wednesday, there were no lines, and the arrival/departure board showed only one canceled flight from San Luis Obispo to Denver.
Passengers told KSBY News they were relieved to get in and out of the San Luis Obispo airport with ease.
However, online, prices for flights from San Luis Obispo are increasing.
On the Kayak website, for example, a flight from San Luis Obispo to San Diego on December 30, 2023, ranges in price from nearly $600 to $2,500.
Another popular site is Expedia which shows same-date prices for a flight from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles ranging from $439 to $1,300.
Sherri Goforth was at the San Luis Obispo airport on Wednesday and said she had to make reservations after her flight was canceled on Christmas Eve due to a mechanical problem.
“Everybody here at this airport in San Luis was working so hard to get everybody booked,” Goforth said. “We lost a lot, we were first class and by rebooking there were no first class seats available so we lost that so it cost us more to sit in different seats.”
Debrah Delcoure said her partner was having a travel nightmare not being able to leave Mexico. She said she had to find a completely different route and noticed the price increase.
“He had to buy a whole new ticket from another airline because he was scheduled with Volaris, and they just got canceled,” Delcoure said.
Parking at the SLO Airport was pretty full on Wednesday, so it’s best to arrive at least two hours early to secure parking or consider using ride-sharing services if you’re traveling this weekend.
