A SCOTS salmon farm made a big splash by appearing as one of the main sponsors of a New York fashion event in the Big Apple last week.
Independent Farm Loch Duarte was a sponsor of the recent Dress to Kilt (DTK) charity fashion show in New York on Saturday 23rd.rd July at the iconic Mill Neck Manor on Long Island.
Showcasing the best of Scotland, this event is a premier platform for fashion designers whose work embodies the Tartan style, with the theme of the event Dressing for Adventure: From the Highlands to the Hamptons.
Built in the early 1920s, Mill Neck Manor is a film and TV location and a popular shooting location for brands such as Johnnie Walker, Ralph Lauren and Mercedes Benz.
Guests were treated to Loch Duarte hors d’oeuvres and an exclusive fashion show featuring a stunning runway show from Loch Duarte himself, while Scottish singer Edward Reid emceed the event.
Locke Duarte modeled a Glenn Orchie tweed jacket and waistcoat in Oban’s wife tartan, with all proceeds donated to the Navy SEAL Foundation.
Another eye-catching outfit saw the model in a pair of yellow oilskin pants, holding one of the salmon from Loch Duarte.
Chris Orr, Sales Director of Loch Duart, said: “We are delighted that Loch Duart salmon will not only be on the menu but also on the runway at the DTK Fashion Show 2022.
Some people ask, ‘What does salmon have to do with fashion?’
“Well, like high-end fashion houses, Loch Duarte is a luxury brand and is served by some of the world’s most famous restaurants.
“Like many fine Scottish textiles and clothing, Loch Duart Salmon is grown with the same artisan spirit and attention to detail to create the best tasting salmon in the world.
“At Loch Duarte, it’s in our DNA to innovate and do things differently, so we wanted to do something fun to promote our unique Scottish salmon.
“The USA is a key market for us, and Loch Duarte is very popular with American chefs, chefs and restaurateurs.
We see a lot more potential to grow the brand in the coming years.
DTK was founded in 2003 by Sir Sean Connery and is now an annual charity event in the United States that brings together leading Scottish designers and famous Scots in Scottish-American culture, food, fashion and music.
Dr Geoffrey Carroll, DTK Founder and Managing Director said: “This year’s DTK Show is the best ever.
“After so many years of global pandemics, everyone’s spirit and enthusiasm was amazing.
“DTK has always strived to promote the best of Scotland in many areas and Loch Durt certainly fits that description.
“My co-founder Sir Sean Connery has always insisted on using this international platform to promote the best of Scotland to the world.
“We therefore welcome the opportunity to work with Locke Duarte as a financial sponsor and airport participant.
“Sir Sean loved the Loch Duarte model with his oily skins and big Scottish salmon on the runway, as did everyone in attendance on Saturday.
“I always say fashion without culture is empty, and boy Loch Duarte checked the Scottish culture box at this year’s show.”
The Scottish stock of Loch Duarte, raised in the rugged waters of northwest Scotland, can be traced back to wild salmon that swam in Scottish rivers 40 years ago.
Fed by a specialist diet high in seafood, Loch Durt Salmon is a high-quality, fresh fish rich in Omega-3 with a unique taste.
