STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men’s and women’s cross country teams each reached the podium at the 2022 NCAA National Championships in Stillwater, becoming the only school in the field to do so.
The Cowboys had their third straight podium finish and ninth top-3 finish under the director of track and field and cross country as a sophomore team. Dave Smith. The Cowgirls finished fourth in team points, the highest in program history, as well as their first in the standings.

In the women’s 6K, the Cowgirls were led by Natalie Cook, who finished seventh in a personal best time of 19:46.3. Cook’s time is now the third-fastest in program history in the women’s 6K, beating Sinclair Johnson’s time by 10 seconds.
“She (Cook) ran the race the way we asked her to,” Smith said. “We told her and Taylor to be five to 15, don’t take risks. If everybody does their job, we can pick up some mistakes and be in the hunt.”
Following Cook was Taylor Roe, who crossed the finish line in 13th in 19:56.4. Ro had a big jump between the 2.05K and 2.83K splits, rising 28 points to 27th. Roe’s time is a personal record on the Greiner family OSU course.
Gabby Henteman followed behind Cook and Roe in 57th in a personal best 6K 20:19.3. Gabija Galvidite and Stephanie Moss scored 74th and 91st respectively.
With a fourth-place team finish, the Cowgirls set the highest mark in program history. The previous highest finish in the championship was fifth place in 1989. Dave Smith In the year In 2015, winning the seventh team.
On the men’s side, OSU and Northern Arizona tied for first with 83 points. The Lumberjacks finished top 5 2-3-18-24-36 to beat Oklahoma State 5-8-11-29-30, giving NAU a 3-2 win. This is the Cowboys’ second straight championship and the most dominant finish. It was also the first time in NCAA history that the national championship winner was decided by a tie.
The Cowboys were leading. Alex Meyer And Jesse Rodriguez, finished fifth and eighth respectively. Their times of 28:58.2 and 28:59.9 are the second and third fastest 10K times in OSU program history, just shy of John Wild’s record of 28:30.0 in 1995.
Fouad Messaoudi He was next for the Cowboys, crossing the finish line 12th in 29:10.8. Messaoudi, along with Maier and Rodriguez, surpassed the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course 10K record of 29:26.1 set by Conner Mantz at BYU in 2020.
Victor Shisama And Rory Leonard He rounded out the scoring for the Cowboys, finishing 31st and 32nd, in 29:29.0 and 29:29.1, respectively.
“The guys absolutely hit it out of the park,” Smith said. “They did exactly what we told them to do to the letter, and it couldn’t have been run any better.” We said that if we get to 90 points or less than 100, we will win. Losing is rare. with 83 points.
The Cowboys will finish in the top-2 for the first time since 2012, when they won it all. They scored their lowest secondary score since 1997. The Cowboys’ 83 points were the fourth-best in program history.
