Already thinking about summer vacation? You are not alone.
A recent American Express survey found that more than 50% of people surveyed are already thinking about summer vacation plans.
If international travel is on your bucket list for next summer, several U.S. airlines are focusing new routes and flights to Europe, said CBS News Travel Editor Peter Greenberg.
“When an airline announces a new route, they do a lot of introductory discounts,” he said. “Jump on them. You’re going to see a lot of that happen between now and the end of February.”
Another factor to consider for travel next summer: The US dollar is strong.
“This creates an opportunity to get, essentially, a 30% to 40% discount on the total spend on a trip,” Greenberg said. “A dinner in Turkey will cost about 40% less than anywhere else. The actual savings are tangible.”
For many other places, Greenberg said, just search now and wait to book.
“The sweet spot for travel, unless it’s a special holiday or it’s high season, is 54 days out,” he said. “It’s always a good time to watch. But now is not a good time to book for summer.”
