rle’s AW23 look features soft curves and sheer volume, creating a comforting, secure, yet girlish and fairy-tale feel. With a color palette that is particularly muted and includes only a few pops of sharp tones like lilac-blue and soft canary-yellow, Zhang wants the collection to give wearers the ultimate freedom in their safe space – both mentally and physically.
Talking about the central theme behind the new season, Zhang addresses a question she often ponders – “What is the sense of security in our hearts that we seek?” And she often passes the bush on the road. “All these jokes are like a true reflection of my heart. Deep inside my heart there is a small ‘room’ with a warm glow. On my way to this room, I passed the flower petals that were the protective cover of my unknown inner world. says Zhang
“This ‘room’ brings together all the feelings and memories that make me feel safe. And for me it’s like a book or a tea room. Whenever I feel insecure or negative, I go to this part of my heart; I opened the door and sat for a while immersing myself in it. This allows me to renew my energy so I am ready to face the world again with a positive mindset.
rle’s collections, past and present, stay away from any trend, as founder and designer Zhang continues to honor the brand’s muse: true natural beauty. The AW23 series is filled with puff silhouettes, pleating and airy layers that gently wrap around the body, creating an ultra-soft cocoon that conveys a sense of security. The embroidered elements in the collection are inspired by the intricate details found in real flowers, butterflies and branches.
