Ranking as team no. 12 in the nation, according to the United Soccer Coaches preseason rankings, which is the highest preseason ranking for the Blue Devils since the 2019 season. Duke played an exhibition game before Tuesday night’s game, a 1-1 tie with South Carolina.
Trent was named Preseason Goaltender of the Year
Holden Trent was voted Big South Preseason Goaltender of the Year after finishing last season with the league’s best save percentage (.736). Trent allowed just 19 goals while recording 53 saves.

HPU was picked second in the Big South Preseason Coaches Poll behind 2021 tournament champion Campbell. The Panthers received one first-place vote in the poll behind the Camels’ eight.

New season, new faces
The 2022 roster features a 12-member recruiting class, no. 17 in the country. The class contains four transfers within Noah Holmes (Freedom), Kaya Ignacio (Virginia), Holland Roll (Wake Forest), and Tony Pineda (West Virginia), as well as freshmen Jefferson Amaya, Caleb Britt, Matt Brucker, Josh Caron, Nick Herb, William Kenne, Brendan KruegerAND Handsome Yantz.
