OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) – Thieves targeted a car audio installation business in Oakland and the store’s owner estimates the loss is over $100,000. Now, the owner is thinking of moving his business to another city.
Security surveillance video of burglars inside Sound Factory, an auto audio installation business on International Blvd. in the Fruitvale district of Oakland. The event happened on July 17 between midnight and 2 am
How did the thieves get in?
“Through the roof. They blew a big hole in the roof,” said Sound Factory owner Jose Torres, who spoke to KRON4 by phone.
“It took about two hours for them to steal everything. The alarm company never called me, never let me know that anyone was inside the store. They spotted him around 8:30 in the morning.”
By then it was all over. The thieves made off with three of his customers’ vehicles, which they filled with expensive audio equipment, including stereos, amplifiers and speakers.
“The loss is over $150,000,” Torres said.

He says the alarm company isn’t the only service that lets him down. He says that after notifying the Oakland Police Department, it took officers several hours to respond and receive a report.
“We don’t have any kind of protection here,” Torres said. “That’s because the city, they don’t have that many cops.”
The Sound Factory has been operating in Fruitvale for 33 years. According to Torres, this is the first time the store has had this type of problem
“I’ve never had a problem in 33 years, no kind of problem,” Torres said. “I’m going to have to get rid of my business, sell everything I own and just walk away. Out of town. Everywhere. Oakland is really bad right now. It’s really bad. “Anyone with information regarding the Sound Factory burglary is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department.
