On Wednesday, reports of Google’s withdrawal began.

After its return, it will once again highlight our dependence on technology service providers and show how much people rely on a single operator for daily tasks.
There are few things in our modern lives that we rely on completely, but for many people, Google is one.
For many, its brief disappearance from the Internet felt like a moment of finality—a testament to how deeply “Google” has become integrated into our lives.

As I wrote last year when cloud computing firm Fastly shut down,
It’s sad when the websites we rely on suddenly become unavailable, and even more so when it happens like this.
We don’t know yet. Google has yet to publicly comment on the outage.
According to Downdetector, there was a significant increase in lag reports for Google earlier today. According to the news wire Reuters:
According to Downdetector, more than 40,000 people have reported issues on its platform, collecting status reports from multiple sources, including user-submitted bugs.
Downdetector says people are having access problems. google mapsThe Guardian also reported problems with Gmail and Google Images.
The outage affected several Google websites, including Internet monitoring site ThousandEyes, which affected more than a thousand servers.
Despite the extent of the disaster, it seems that it took about 30-40 minutes before services started to return to normal.
It is not an isolated incident.
Google, like all technology providers, is prone to many service failures.
This isn’t the first Google outage – there have been other outages in 2020 (including a very large one in December) caused by inefficiencies in their authentication system.
But interruptions like these, however brief, show how dependent we are on “enthusiasm” for many aspects of life.
It’s not all bad news
Although Google’s disappearance made headlines around the world, today’s incident was short-lived – just like all previous cases.
Google has the capacity and ability to quickly resolve service issues when they occur.
And, as many people have said, you can still search online even when Google goes down — you might have to use a different search provider like Bing or DuckDuckGo.
Even in the unlikely event of an outage, our ability to search for cat photos will not be affected.
