In the year In November 2013, Nigeria will be the first country to take center stage at Johannesburg-based Discop Africa. Various events, screenings and conference tracks will be held to celebrate Nollywood’s 20th anniversary, showcasing Nigeria’s fast-growing film industry. It was recently ranked second in the world in terms of production.

Los Angeles and Johannesburg-based Discop has announced a new ‘Host Country’ spotlight initiative at both Discop Africa and Discop Istanbul to celebrate the content, production and distribution industries in key territories serving the two regional markets.
Richard Bell, Chief Executive Officer of Wanachi Group, East Africa’s leading home entertainment operator and Africa’s second largest pay TV operator at Discop Africa, was the keynote speaker at the opening session of the event. Bell will be interviewed one-on-one about the growth of the Pay TV market in Africa and why Africa is expected to become the number one Pay TV market in the world in the next ten years. Rick Feldman will moderate the session on Wednesday, November 6 at 9 am.
“A guest country will provide an in-depth look at audiences in Africa, Africa’s most vibrant markets. To celebrate Nollywood’s 20th anniversary, Nigeria will be our first guest country and its film and TV industries will be celebrated during the celebration,” commented Patrick Jucaud-Zuchovychki, CEO of Discop. He added: “Africa is the fastest growing advertising, free-to-air and pay-TV market in the world. Our ambition is to hold two events. One year, not too far, one in South Africa, the other in Nigeria.”
More than 2,000 delegates from 70-plus countries are expected to attend the 8th edition of DISCOPE Africa from 6 to 8 November 2013, representing more than 800 new and established regional and international companies making content business and digital transformation in and across Africa. National umbrellas representing the United Kingdom, France, America, China, Korea, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa will also be present on the stage.
