The Northern Lights are the most requested experience in a new survey conducted by travel experts Bucket List Travels. The study of over 2,000 British travelers also shows that their biggest regret at the end of their lives will be not having explored the world enough. The survey by Bucket List Travels, a new specialist travel inspiration website dedicated to uncovering the world’s biggest ‘bucket list’ trips, has shown that most of us have a travel bucket list. Of the top five bucket list spots, one The American road trip came in second, followed by a safari in Africa, exploring the Great Barrier Reef and sailing the Fjords of Norway.

Over 50% of respondents said they would like to see at least five more different countries in their lifetime, with over a third making bucket list trips whenever they get the chance. Not surprisingly, this is highest among singles and younger age groups.

The Roman philosopher Seneca said that “travel and change of place give the mind new energy.” A third of those in the Bucket List Travels survey said that travel refreshes their mental outlook on their lives, focusing again on the positive and less on the negative. Medical studies show that there are many holistic, physical and mental benefits of travel that increase significantly when you go somewhere new. We feel a sense of accomplishment that we have been somewhere new. People also say that traveling helps them form closer relationships with their family and friends, appreciate what they have, gain a greater sense of self-awareness, and even enjoy better sleep.
