A Northeast Portland business owner shot a man after he allegedly broke into the business Monday morning, police said Tuesday.
Police are releasing few other details, including the names of the business, the shooting victim who was seriously injured or the person who fired the shots.
Police said two people confronted each other near the 3600 block of Northeast Columbia Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. Monday. Police responded shortly after and found a man with apparent gunshot wounds. Another person, who police identified as the business owner, was not injured and remained at the scene to speak with investigators, police said.
Jimmy Smith, a facilities manager at Northwest Self Storage on Columbia Boulevard, said the shooting happened next door at an auto repair shop. He lives locally and said he was awake but did not hear the gunshots Monday morning. The sound of sirens drew him and his dog outside, where he said he saw about 10 police cars parked outside the business east of the warehouse.
City records show the building at 3548 NE Columbia Boulevard is owned by Wayne Bunker and Columbia Auto Wholesale, LLC. A phone number shared by Bunker and the business was no longer in service Tuesday.
Police temporarily closed one eastbound lane of Columbia Boulevard between 34th and 38th streets for the initial investigation, officials said.
