BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s track and field program will make the short trip to Easton to take on rival Lafayette in its annual outdoor dual meet from the Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex on Sunday, April 2nd.
The Mountain Hawks defeated the Leopards in last season’s outdoor meet, winning 117-86 with 13 first-place finishes and then claimed the indoor dual meet 118-60 for their ninth straight victory over the Leopards by winning 14 of 17 events.
Schedule of Events
The men’s javelin and women’s hammer throw will kick off the dual meet at 11:30 a.m., followed by the men’s javelin, men’s long jump and women’s high jump, all starting at 12 p.m.: 00. The women’s triple jump and wen will take place at the end of the women’s long jump with the women’s discus and the men’s discus after the end of the men’s hammer throw. The men’s and women’s shot will conclude the field events and will begin after the women’s javelin.
The track events will begin at 12:45pm with the women’s and men’s 4x100m relays, followed by the 3000m steeplechase. The 1500m races will take place at 13:25 before the women’s 100m hurdles and the men’s 110m hurdles. Starting at 2:05 p.m., the 400m and 100m races will follow each other before the 800m and 400m hurdles races. The final three track events of the day will be the 200-meter races, the 5,000-meter races and the 4×400-meter relay.
Field events
Last season, senior Ian Scott was named the men’s track and field athlete of the meet, claiming top two PRs in the long jump and triple jump during his sophomore year Skyler Mott earned a first-place finish in the high jump and a second-place finish in the triple jump as a senior Louis Logsdale won the pole vault with a PR height. Junior Akil Mouzakis continued to produce strong marks, winning the hammer throw while second Liam Lovering finished second in the discus.
In the indoor dual meet, Scott then scored two wins with a first-place finish in the long jump and high jump during his freshman year Daniel Givens won first place in the triple jump. In pole vault, junior Conor Reilly and freshman Carter Bartz finished first and second, respectively. These Lehigh standouts continued to shine as juniors Conor Reilly and freshman Carter Bartz finished first and second, respectively. Lovering won the shot put and finished second in the shot put as a Senior Quinn Conlannew Akil Mouzakis and sophomore Alex Clevenger all had solid performances that led to their names being added to Lehigh’s all-time list.
Follow the events
In the indoor dual meet, the team continued to excel in track, winning nine events. Senior Connor Fairly started things off for the Mountain Hawks by winning the mile as a junior Daniel Stipanov won the 60m hurdles and senior Amanda Lemmon won the 400m with a PR. Lehigh then swept the 500 meters when it was second patrez thomas finished first. Senior Thank you Ayhan won the 800m and second Aidan Lynch captured the 1000m title with a PR time. The Mountain Hawks’ 4×400 relay team earned the Mountain Hawks’ final win of the day with Thomas, senior Douglas Cooke, Ayhan and Lemmon compete in the relay. Melko returned to the track with the older colleague Ryan Wycherley and the first years Henry Burd AND Thomas Arnold to compete in the 4×800 relay. Four Mountain Hawks went on to win the final event of the day.
In last year’s outdoor dual, the sophomore Jonathan Bennett was selected as the men’s track athlete of the meet as the Mountain Hawks boasted nine first-place finishes and nine PRs. Bennett led the way for Lehigh in the sprints, finishing first in both of his events with new PRs in the 110m hurdles and 200m. Thomas finished first in the 400m hurdles with a PR and went on to win the senior 4×400 relay Brandtson Duffie AND Thank you Ayhan. Ayhan finished first in the 400m with a new PR while Duffie won the 800m. Martinez was one of several Mountain Hawks to finish the dual meet with a win, finishing first in the 1500m.
