The pipe explodes, destroying the merchandise in the Mt. Clemens
A broken pipe led to flooding that destroyed most of the merchandise at Alleycat Metaphysical Supplies in Mount Clemens. The repairs are expected to be extensive and will include removing the entire ceiling and redoing the woodwork.
MT. CLEMENS, Mich. (FOX 2) – When a store owner in Mt. Clemens went to his store to feed his cat, he discovered a mess that destroyed his merchandise and the building.
“We came here around noon on Christmas Day to feed our cat Luci and we left like the whole place was raining down here,” Lyle Kramp said.
A pipe burst upward, filling the Alleycat Metaphysical Supplies with water. Luci is safe, but the shop suffered extensive damage.
“We had ice on the doorknob. That main door, it was frozen the whole day we were here, I think it was Friday or Saturday. Even with the heat on here and the windows were frozen,” Kramp said.
There is little or nothing that he will be able to escape.

“The clothes my wife makes; we had a ton of books here, old first edition prints. We don’t know what’s going to happen,” Kramp said. “That was our main source of income and now it’s gone.”

Kramp’s owner, Bon Labadie, owns a shop next to the business – Heads Up Pipe and Novelty Shop. His store was damaged, but not as badly as Alleycat, something he appreciates about cases that protect products.
“All the doors were frozen shut. Water was pouring out of here and right out onto the street,” Labadie said. “I made the calls, got people over here as quickly as possible, and what we started doing was a basic cleaning with the shop vacs to at least get the remaining water out, shut off the water, and so on. “
Labadie said it won’t be an easy fix.
“What we have to do there is the whole ceiling has to come down, all the woodwork in there has to be redone and so that’s going to take time,” he said.
