The Seattle Mariners made a surprise roster addition on Saturday, and they hope it pays off as they aim to reach the postseason for the first time since 2001.
The Mariners announced they have adopted a club dog from Okandogs Dog Rescue in Cashmere, Washington. The four-year-old labrador/retriever mix named Tucker will be a club regular at T-Mobile Park as well as on the road.

My name is Tucker, I am a 4 year old lab/retriever friend and I was just adopted from @Mariners
I’ll be able to hang out at the park all the time, travel with the team, and enjoy my unlimited supply of baseballs. It doesn’t get any better than this! pic.twitter.com/F2KdirlDXO
It seems Tucker is already making himself at home, too, and is making some new friends with the players and coaching staff.

Many have asked who my favorite Mariner is. I tell them it’s anyone who plays with me. pic.twitter.com/0rU7fhy7vb

Manager Scott Servais he told reporters that the idea to adopt a club dog had been in the works for over a year:
“He was scouted very heavily. We ran people over there and checked them out. Jack ran over there. We got big numbers on this dog. So he went up in the Draft. We’re happy to have him as a free agent for our club. Really good. This guy will pick up and play with the guys all day. You’ll see him running around the field here for the next few days. He’s got the club covered now.”
What a year for Mariners to adopt a puppy, too. The team is currently second in the American League West with a 57-50 record and could make a deep playoff run. If that happens, Tucker is sure to be the life of the party.
