DETROIT (FOX 2) – Detroit’s business scene is booming — and it’s not where you think you’ll find it. Move over Downtown and Midtown, the Livernois/Six Mile/McNichols business district also known as Live6 is vying for the spotlight
“It’s really the crossroads of a wonderful commercial corridor and neighborhood that’s coming back to life,” said Dr. Geneva Williams.
Detroit’s Pizza Bar, which celebrated its grand opening earlier this year, is one of several businesses enjoying success on the Six Mile.
And as Detroit’s Pizza Bar thrives, other businesses plan to open soon in this business district.
The progress at Live6 is not just about retail, but also housing, including a new all-unit development designated for affordable rent.
“We are building a three-story, 38-unit apartment building, the first to be built in the area in more than 50 years,” said George N’Namdi, managing partner, Sawyer Art Apartments.
The City of Detroit’s Strategic Neighborhood Fund is helping to provide an economic boost to these business areas through its nonprofit and private sector partners.
