Lawrence man arrested after threatening business he shot at

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – A Lawrence man was arrested after he had to be taken down by a Taser after threats he allegedly made at a business that recently fired him.

The Lawrence Police Department says on Monday, February 20, officers were able to safely arrest a man, later identified as Marquis Deshan Lee, 48, of Lawrence, after witnesses said he went to the scene of his previous job and pulled a gun.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Friday, officials said they were called to the 1100 block of Horizon Dr. with threat reports. Employees reported that Lee had recently been fired and came in making threats and brandishing a handgun. He left after seeing that a woman he believed was responsible for his termination was not there.

LPD said it attempted to contact Lee via phone calls, however, the line was disconnected or went to voicemail. Officers then learned of his whereabouts and attempted to arrest him in the hallway of an apartment complex.

Officials noted that Lee physically resisted arrest and attempted to run inside the residence he was found in front of. To prevent further escalation, they said an officer tasted it and they were able to safely stop it.

LPD said they were able to retrieve the gun that was allegedly brandished during the incident. Lee was taken to the hospital for a checkup and then booked into the Douglas Co. Jail. for interfering with law enforcement, criminal possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated assault. He remains behind bars on a $500,000 bond.
