Without question, Kim Kardashian has been making bold (and a little edgy) fashion choices of late. She was never boring with choices like her transparent/gravity-defying dress and head-to-toe leather bodysuit and fetish masks, and now she’s set another new trend through her SKIMS brand, but it’s going to be a hard no for me: swimming gloves.
Yes, these are called “swimming gloves”. The Halo star is selling these nylon/spandex gloves that can (theoretically) be worn on the beach in seven different colors at SKIMS for $48 a pop. The function of these underwater ballroom accessories, you may ask? Well, that, apparently: accessibility. The item’s description on the site suggests it will “instantly enhance your swimming look.” It also says that people who wear them “give a lustful glow.”
Let’s just stop there, because there’s no way a reverse farmer’s skin could possibly make a “sex spray.” I mean, at least that’s what I tell myself moi If I want to channel this new trend at my local pool or beach. And just in case, we’re not seeing Kim Kardashian on vacation with Pete Davidson wearing her product, are we? I rested my case.
Alas, though, rule-breaking fashion is what Kim Kardashian is after, and why she took home the Fashion Icon Award at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards. She’s been pushing the envelope with her own style in recent months, lining up a variety of designer names and showing off what can only be described as a shoestring. Some say this is the 41-year-old’s way of rejecting Kanye West’s influence on her clothes after the split, which she even admitted was in Season 1. The Kardashians. But I will say that the billionaire tops their swim gloves and shoelaces (along with the awkward summer tan line they produce).
However, we have to give credit to the television personality for her business acumen. At the time of writing, SKIMS swim gloves are actually sold in four select colors in all sizes. So obviously someone (not me) is buying what this trend is selling. Additionally, Kim Kardashian is making other moves, such as updating the designs of her signature bodysuit collection and revamping her skin care line. (The latter has already been hit with a trademark infringement lawsuit.)
