The Katie Holmes stylist’s latest 2000s nostalgia-inducing fashion look for the actor sparked a lot of buzz on social media over the weekend.
Brie Welch told The New York Times in an interview published Tuesday that she worked with Holmes to coordinate the look, which incorporates the actor’s taste and practicality.
Holmes attended the iHeart Radio Jingle Ball in New York City on Friday, which featured performances from Dua Lipa, Lizzo and Demi Lovato. She teamed it with black Margiela sneakers and wore a strapless blue T-shirt over a pair of loose straight jeans.
“We decided that the top’s rich color and subtle distressed effect would be cute and fun to pair with jeans,” Welch said.
Holmes said she wanted to wear sneakers the day of the concert because she was expecting “a lot of dancing to Dua Lipa (and nothing comfortable!).”
Holmes’ Jingle Ball appearance sparked a flurry of responses from Twitter users concerned that the Y2K fad – featuring low-rise jeans and skinny jeans – had made a comeback.
People shared their shock as the actor’s look was captured not in 2002 but in 2022.
But some people won over the look, and even praised the actress’ ability to get people talking about her outfit.
