The designer of the future is a “technologist with a scientific mind”, according to Enrique Silla, president of Genology, a sustainable textile solutions company based in Spain that contributed to the launch of the “Future Fashion” International Congress. World Design Capital event held October 5th and 6th in Valencia, Spain.
Jeanologia, whose mission is to create an ethical, sustainable and eco-efficient textile industry, is participating in “a new era of sustainability, digitalisation and automation”. To that end, Silla said. “The future of fashion and design is about beauty and balancing the planet.”
Balancing technology with the “spirit and soul of an artisan” in fashion will drive the industry forward, Silla stressed, noting that future tools such as robots, tablets, nanobubbles and lasers will replace traditional design canvases. And even scissors in fashion design and production.
Promoting sustainability, especially for denim, Silla said, “Design is not just about form and function, it’s about the planet.” He encouraged designers to incorporate non-polluting products and processes into their design processes.
The company’s technologies enable the elimination of 100 percent of waste from gin production, from textiles to the final garment, reducing the use of water, energy and chemical products, he said.
Representatives from the Swedish Embassy in Spain and companies such as H&M and Ikea visited Genology’s facilities to learn about the company’s technologies and methods to promote sustainability and efficiency in the textile industry.
Jeanologia said that “future fashion” is a major milestone in the official program of the World Design Capital Valencia 2022, which for the first time brought together national and international educational institutions and industry members. The Congress offers activities, talks and workshops about the future of the fashion industry based on six themes: raw materials; design supply chain; product consumption and waste; and emissions and biodiversity, all according to Jeanologia.
The congress features participants such as Christian Dolva and Maria Bystedt from the H&M Foundation. Christopher Raburn, award-winning British designer; Member of the European Parliament Alice Bach Kuhnke; Among the professors of Glasgow and London Fashion School and others, BrainBox by Jeanologia head Fernando Cardona.
