Holichichi’s new collection honors the traditions passed down to South Asian mothers and their children
new york, September 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ – Founder and designer Megha Rao and creative director Pooja Desai Shah Indo-Western fashion label holiCHIC unveiled the brand’s new collection titled ‘Ma’ (meaning mother in India) at the New York Fashion Week runway show. The runway showcased featured pieces from the FW22 ‘Ma’ collection, holiMENs, including sari power dresses, vintage inspired saris, sheer cocktail dresses and pieces from their men’s line.

Founder and designer, Megha Rao and creative director Pooja Desai-Shah took to the runway to close their second NYFW show.

Model, Samia Basharat will take to the runway as the brand’s first South Asian model to walk the Holitchy fashion show.
Taking 10 months to create, the ‘Ma’ tribute collection by designer Megha Rao is inspired by her late mother. Jayshree Lathigara Reflecting on the legacy and values South Asian mothers pass on to their daughters. It features a contemporary interpretation of classic Indian fashion that takes influence from “mother’s closet”.
holiCHIC was created by Rao to combine both Western and South Asian cultures. As the daughter of immigrant parents, Megha has always felt like she came from different worlds. Her designs represent those two identities. The designer explained, “I’ve always been a member of two worlds, and my mother played a big role in helping me find a balance between both. She taught me how to embrace the opportunities I grew up in America, appreciating and honoring the South. Asian roots.”
The collection draws inspiration from Megha’s childhood and her relationship with her mother. “The collection features haile business suits, dresses and more, created from traditional saris to represent the strength and resilience of our immigrant mothers who never forget where they came from. My aim for this collection was to find new ways to combine old. and new, while reviving and reviving cultural heritage while honoring my mother.”
