CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – After a quiet night tonight, all eyes are on our midweek winter storm. Any snow in the far north that developed during the day will move east tonight. Look for lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s.
** Ice Storm Warning, Winter Storm Warning, Winter Weather Advisory issued for parts of Eastern Iowa Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon**

(KCRG)
EFFECTS OF ICE: The next winter storm is still on track to move in Wednesday, lasting into early Thursday morning. For us, the main impact will unfortunately be freezing rain and ice accumulation. Snow accumulation will be limited to the far northeast corner of Iowa, although freezing rain may mix in these areas as well. It is important to note that areas not included in the Ice Storm Warning may still see ice accumulation. At this time, we expect the worst of the rain to pick up near the 30 Freeway corridors and especially the 20 Freeway.

This wintry mix is expected to begin during the morning commute with impacts intensifying by mid to late morning.
Given the cold and freezing nature of the rain in general, travel can be very difficult and, at some points, impossible due to the freezing rain in the area. Strong winds are also expected and depending on how much ice accumulates, could result in isolated power outages or tree damage. Even areas that receive a light glaze or small amounts of traces can still see impacts from this system. If you can avoid traveling on Wednesday, it is advisable.
HAND INFLUENCES: In terms of snowfall amounts, the northern row of counties in Eastern Iowa will likely get the most, possibly more than 4 inches in spots. Further south, snow is not a big factor locally with this system, with the focus towards ice potential.

EFFECTS OF WIND: Wind-wise, 30-40+ mph gusts are expected Thursday on the backside of the low pressure system. Depending on the ice accumulation, this could lead to sporadic power outages and also the potential for isolated tree damage. For those picking up some snow accumulation, look for blowing and drifting snow, especially towards Decorah and Waukon.
