ATLANTA – The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety awarded the Georgia Department of Health more than $2 million in grant money to help provide technical assistance and resources to agencies statewide.
The grant will also help develop community support for motor vehicle safety programs, data links, and help evaluate program efforts.
The total grant amount is $2,495,831.85.

The Child Safety Injury Prevention Program Project will receive $1,567,881 to help promote safe transportation for children throughout Georgia.
The Office of Health Indicators for Planning was awarded $196,698. The office processes death, population, hospital discharge and ER visit data.
Over $308,000 went to the Injury Prevention Program’s (KODI) Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System. The project brings together several agencies to identify opportunities for crash prevention by linking and analyzing crash, vehicle and behavioral characteristics with medical and financial data.
TRENDS:
The 55+ Driver Safety Injury Prevention Program will receive $192,420. This program teaches drivers over the age of 55, their families and professionals about safe driving, age-related mobility challenges and the importance of mobility planning.
The Georgia Emergency Medical Services Information System (GEMSIS) will receive $230,141. The money will support system improvements and connections, including tools to measure the time of definitive care for trauma patients.

Toomey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health. “This programmatic support has made a difference for Georgians and continues to save lives and prevent injuries.”
