In a special meeting Friday, the Lawton City Council repealed the code requiring general business licenses in the city.
The now-repealed code was approved by the Council on June 14, 2022, but according to Speaker Stan Booker, it was not initially presented with all the information necessary for Council members to make an informed decision.
Ward 6 Councilman Sean Fortenbaugh moved to, “repeal and strike all provisions and language in Ordinance 22-16 that created Section 7-1-1-100, Article 7-1-1, Division 7-1, Chapter 7 , City of Lawton Code, 2015 relating to general business license and refund of any monies collected for general business licenses.”
The motion was seconded by Ward 8 Councilman Randy Warren and passed 6-0.
The City of Lawton has issued 14 general business licenses. The City’s Division of Licenses and Permits will be reaching out to those business owners within the next two weeks to have them complete the additional paperwork required in order for them to receive a full refund.
