Ford announced that it produced about 150,000 Mustang Mach-Es two years ago. The milestone is critical for the automaker, especially as the automaker pushes toward electrification. It aims to speed up EV production to 600,000 by the end of 2023 and over 2 million by 2026.

According to Ford, almost all Mach-E growth to date has come from customers replacing their internal combustion cars. This proves that the Mach-E is attracting not only car buyers who are already ready to buy an EV, but customers who still drive a combustion engine. Darren Palmer, vice president, electric vehicle programs, Ford Model e, highlighted the skepticism the company faced when giving the Mustang moniker to the all-electric crossover.
“When we put the pony on this Mustang, we knew we were going to have skeptics. What we didn’t know then was how popular this car would become. I love seeing Mustang Mach-E vehicles on the road and talking to customers, and I’m seeing more and more,” Palmer said.
EV production
For now, Ford will produce the Mc-In at the Cuatitlán Stamping and Assembly plant in Mexico to speed up sales of the vehicle. These improvements were hinted at by Ford’s director of manufacturing, Deborah Manzano.
“The plant is buzzing. There’s a new battery line, a new chassis line and an extra assembly line, we’re literally adding space to make more Mustang Mach-E vehicles. We’ve also recently added a new paint shop. Nothing’s going to stand still!” Manzano said. More than 80% of Mustang Mach-E drivers and 90% of European customers have switched from ICE to electric. The data shows that the Ford Electric Mustang is helping the transition to sustainable transportation.
