Now that she’s found herself in the spotlight, Ana de Armas is set to star in an upcoming Netflix movie. Yellow color, Marilyn Monroe is having another big moment in popular culture. And most recently, she has been featured digitally again, in a virtual presentation on the cover of CR Fashion Book China, wearing the latest collections from Balenciaga, Fendi, Prada and other major fashion houses.

De Armas isn’t the only star breathing new life into Marilyn Monroe’s legacy. Kim Kardashian’s MET Gala stunt – walking the red carpet wearing the same vintage Jean Louis ‘Nude’ dress Monroe once wore to President JFK’s 1962 ‘Happy Birthday’ – drew a lot of attention (and a lot of controversy).

The Jean Louis vintage dress Monroe wore during her memorable birthday performance for President JFK in 1962. But no matter what trends come and go, and no matter who tries to emulate her, Monroe will always be an icon — a sentiment shared by CR’s founder and creator. Director Carine Roitfeld: ‘She’s a dream cover star for any fashion editor and someone I’ve always admired for creating a captivating personal brand that transcends her work. This is a key feature of most celebrities today, but Marilyn was one of the first to do it. I accepted the unique challenge of imagining a modern photoshoot for such a classic star. My looks with Gaultier showcase my favorite designers working today – Marilyn has always been a trendsetter – while still highlighting her timeless beauty and sense of empowerment.’

Following her birthday on June 1, CR China Issue 4 features eight stunning covers digitally created by Karin Imaging Monroe to capture what today’s culture might look like. On CGI visuals, CR worked closely with Web3 startup Amethyst and Authentic Brands Group (ABG), the brand development, marketing and entertainment company that owns the Monroe property, to paint the fashion and film icon through a modern lens.
