Debina Bonnerjee, who regularly shares her joys and anxieties as a new mom with her fans and followers on Instagram, recently opened up about getting her eldest daughter Lianna to practice. earthing — to walk barefoot on the ground or on any natural surface — for some time during the day. “Walk on Grass for Earth Connection”, Debina wrote on Instagram Stories.

While grounding, also called grounding, is known to benefit adults—according to a 2012 study by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). Grounding: Health Implications of Reconnecting the Human Body to the Earth’s Surface Electrons, “Grounding (or grounding) refers to discovering the benefits—including better sleep and reduced pain—from walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to Earth’s electron-transferring conduction systems from earth to body”; does it help babies in any way?
In our search for an answer, we turned to an expert to understand the benefits of this age-old practice for a baby.
the concept of walking barefoot over grass is old, but recently this practice has been seen gaining recognition and importance with newer terms being coined around it. Grounding and grounding are names used to explain the importance of grass walking, said Dr Vanshika Gupta Adukia, pregnancy/birth and lactation specialist.
“Naturalists explain that with modernization humans have lost their connection to the natural magnetic field of Mother Earth, and are therefore seeing an increase in chronic disease, sleep disturbances, mental stress, hormonal imbalance and other such modern day health issues. Grounding helps us simply by reconnecting us to the natural energy of the Earth and neutralizing negative energies built up within our bodies. It is a known fact that spending time with nature is one of the best developmental boosters for any growing child. Walking barefoot on the grass comes with benefits for babies that go beyond those for adults,” said Dr Vanshika Indianexpress.com.
She further listed the following benefits:
*Those little arches and little feet have so much strengthening and the stretch they have to go through. Their muscles, ligaments and tendons all grow and strengthen with more use and walking barefoot on grass. As strength increases, so will stability; which means less injuries.
*The sole of the foot in contact with the Earth can actually help the body’s normal circadian rhythm. This means helping babies sleep better, digest betterand better regulate their system – in turn, optimizing their growth.
*Children are known to respond best through sensory stimulation, which is primary in brain development. Walking barefoot on grass stimulates their touch/tactile receptors which continues to help build them up vestibular and proprioceptive systems known to take care of balance, coordination, and spatial awareness.
*Walking barefoot on grass will also make your little one more aware of their surroundings, like the crunch of dry leaves underfoot, the cool morning dew on green grass, wet mud underfoot – the heightened senses will help them acquire, learn and understand the world better.
*Feet are known to have maximum nerve endings that remain unstimulated due to wearing shoes. In infants and young children, shoes can cut them off from the natural messages that pressure points and nerve endings give when their feet make contact with the ground. “I walked with bare feet in the grass can stimulate these nerve endings and promote their development nervous systemsaid Dr. Vanshika.
