BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WBOY) – The Harrison County Chamber of Commerce held its monthly “Business in the Morning” event early Friday morning, where guest speakers talked about cryptocurrency.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, cryptocurrency is described as “any electronic money system, used for buying and selling online and without the need for a central bank.”
This Morning Business series is something the trade has been doing for several years. Every month, they bring in guest speakers to talk about different topics. Friday’s guest speakers briefed members on cryptocurrency. Two employees of MVB Edge Ventures joined the breakfast to explain to members all aspects of cryptocurrency and why it is becoming so popular.
Chamber of Commerce President Kathy Wagner wants the series to be on topics that are of current interest. The topic of cryptocurrency was brought up by many members of the trade because they had a ton of questions. Even if the event raised even more questions, it started the conversation about digital currency in the community.
The Harrison County Chamber also has an evening series, but Wagner said he feels like the morning series time, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., is more accessible to small businesses.
Wagner had some questions of her own when she visited her bank. She said, “Well, many places are, you’re finding it more often. I was at an ATM the other day and I saw an option for bitcoin, and I’m like ‘wait a minute. How does this work at an ATM with my debit card?’ So there’s just a lot of questions, we’re seeing more of it spread. So we want people to be informed about that.” She is happy to be back in person and able to connect face-to-face with others again.
Anyone can come to these topic chats if they are interested, it’s not just for members. Dates and topics for future Business in the Morning events can be found here.
The Chamber will have its 103rd Annual Dinner on August 22 at Pierpont Community and Technical College, RCB National Aerospace Education Center, starting at 6 p.m. They will be announcing a new program starting soon.
