Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs is hitting his stride at age 29, preparing for his ninth NFL season. Since joining the Seahawks via a trade with the Detroit Lions in 2019, he has caught 20 tackles in 38 games for Seattle. Despite back-to-back Pro Bowl temptations, Diggs wants a lot more — from himself and the team heading into 2022.
In January, Diggs went down with a broken right fibula and dislocated ankle in Week 18 against the Arizona Cardinals. The injury ended Diggs’ season just minutes before the end of regulation. In March, Seattle re-signed Diggs to a three-year deal, showing great confidence in their star safety, who is reeling off five consecutive layoff seasons. During Day 2 of training camp, Diggs took some time at the podium to give an update on himself and what he saw on the field.
As the preseason begins, Diggs’ recovery has been a hot topic.
“I’m right,” he said. “I’m where God wants me to be and it’s important for me to get out here and be here with my teammates as much as I can, so for me it’s just taking it one day at a time and for I’m just blessed and live in the moment for the most part. I’ve got a nice family and I’ve had a nice opportunity to come out here and be around the guys and be back with my coaches, so it’s really dope.”
Even with a new contract, Diggs still maintains the hunger and humility attributed to his success.
“You can always feel comfortable, but you can never feel comfortable,” he said. “So for me, I’m happy to be here for another three years and at the end of the day you know I’ve still got work to do and I’ve still got things to try so for me you can never think that you are settled somewhere. and you think that everything is all right, because at the end of the day it is a job.”
The former Detroit Lions captain is known as a player who does everything for the Seahawks defense and the numbers show it. For the 2021 season, Diggs recorded a career-high 94 combined tackles, 5 interceptions and 7 passes defensed.
