FORT SCOTT, Ks. – The golfers woke up bright and early this morning to make a difference.
Golfers from 5 states headed to Fort Scott for the 5th Annual Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office Golf Tournament.
All money raised will go to Special Olympics Kansas, specifically to help 11 counties in Southeast Kansas.
Over 240 people competed today, including some big names.
Former Atlanta Braves center fielder Otis Nixon, Tyrone “Hollywood” Brown and Les “Peewee” Harrison of the Harlem Globetrotters, and champion golfer and trick shot Rocky Shipes.
“With the kind of hospitality they were giving us, we knew it. When you’ve been doing this as long as I have, I knew this would be the kind of event where people would do it the right way, and that’s a treat for me for a change. It’s just a no-brainer to be involved with the Special Olympics, it’s one of my favorites,” says Rocky Shipes, Golf Entertainer.
“It’s an incredible feeling to have everyone come out. People think we can do it in a week, Ben and I do it, it’s 10/11 months of the year we prepare for this,” says Steve Anthony, Tournament Organizer.
According to Anthony, the first four fights have helped raise over $80,000 for Special Olympics Kansas.
